It’s not often that we get the chance to do a cross-platform assessment. Although in the world of modern technology, everything should be equal, this is n’t always the case, which is nice to see how the same title adapts to various systems. In light of this, Albert Este, my close friend and colleague, and I have been checking out Crypt Custodian. a brand-new Metroidvania that’s really struck our PC and console windows. I’ve been playing the PS5 version of the game while Albert has been checking out the Switch type. Let’s see if we both have sincere comments, may we?

A kitty who has entered the hereafter appears in the video game Crypt Custodian. He is n’t allowed into heaven and is dumped in the world outside The Palace, for completely stupid reasons that I wo n’t go into. The task of cleaning that somewhat uncomfortable plane of existence is then assigned to him. Although the story has an odd side, it’s always nice to play a game that does n’t take itself too seriously. Despite this, the story has a certain amount of humor that makes the characters you’ll meet along the way likeable. In a Metroidvania environment, this is difficult to achieve because it frequently centers on hard-hitting activity and sometimes has a story that fits the genre. It’s refreshing to see a game do things slightly unique.

Nice to know that the future has a table. This is where you buy your updates.

The fact that Crypt Custodian is n’t a side-scrolling affair is the first thing I love to say. Metroidvanias are numerous software games that have been improved upon. This one is a top-down adventure and as someone who really is n’t a fan of hectic platforming, this is very welcome. Think Zelda: A Link to the Past and you’ve kind of got an idea of what we’re going for. I’m not sure what this is, but I find it much easier to jump from one location to another from a top-down perspective, which greatly reduces the stress.

As with any Metroidvania, you wo n’t be able to access all of the areas of the map from the beginning of the game. Back-tracking is a necessity because of this, but it also ensures that you wo n’t run into anything you ca n’t handle too quickly. Because those areas wo n’t be yours until you’ve learned the skills to get there, you wo n’t get lost and find yourself facing odds that are way above your capacity. By this stage, you should be equipped to deal with what you’re facing. This creates an unusual dilemma. This is not by any means a linear game; exploration is not just encouraged but necessary, but you ca n’t just go anywhere and do anything that will make the areas you can explore feel completely manageable. This is fantastic because you never get too excited about what Crypt Custodian has in store.

That seems too great to climb. Also, this is a Metroidvania after all.

Crypt Custodian blends actions with puzzle-solving properly. Those of you who only want to get right into the action will undoubtedly be able to scrape the violent itch, but fighting not feels so hard that you want to split the controller. The mysteries in this name, on the other hand, are enough to render you scratch your head without making you feel like they’ve been made to be extremely complicated just for fun. It’s most likely not because you’re not sure what you’re doing, but rather that you’ve missed something that’s very straightforward that you’ll figure out after a few attempts if a issue takes too long to complete. Once, I appreciate this because it creates the ideal speed to keep you stuck by blending puzzle-solving and beating items up with a brush.

The amount of points to consider and gather is something that I believe will help maintain Crypt Custodian’s game interesting. Some of these are upgrade points that might be hidden behind puzzles that are gated or in areas of the map you wo n’t initially be able to explore. These are undoubtedly very important because they will help the quiet abilities you can purchase throughout the game. You can also obtain animals. These amiable animals are hidden in bottles scattered around the image, and you’ll be compensated if you can get them all and return them to their mothers. Because these are frequently off the beaten path, you can always come back and look for the things you’ve missed if you’re stuck or need a break from the situation you’re battling through. There are useful fabric points on the map to ease back-tracking, preventing you from having to go back and re-enter your previous locations.

Speaking of fabric points … these are reservoirs from which you can save, provide abilities, and teleport. This is also the first factor you’ll want to discover when you start a new place. You have no idea where the next one is, which is the issue. This is a good way to get the adrenaline pumping because you might have a lot of work to do before you can find another safe point if you do n’t find it right away or accidentally head in the wrong direction while exploring. This puts you in the position of not having much of living and knowing that you are in an unfamiliar place. The relief you experience when you discover these are sometimes palpable because you do n’t want to ruin all your hard work by being fired from the previous one.

Crypt Custodian‘s images have a lovely, square experience, the sound is excellent and it controls like a dream on PS5. I’m very hit-and-miss with the Metroidvania music, mainly on account of no liking platform games much, mainly because I’m not really good at them. I was only interested in seeing what I was going to face future, not the typical feeling of frustration I experienced when I played this one. This name is going to be right up your alley if you enjoy this kind of game. The play in Crystal Custodian is very retro, which is something I enjoy a lot, and some of the game is really nostalgic. This being said, I’d visit this activity a win, for me at least. I’m convinced I’ll return and finish it because it’s a great new improvement to my collection.

Albert Este

For a stranger to the action genre that is already heavily reliant on Soulslike games, Crypt Custodian is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air. The game sets itself aside with a personalized experience that some casual gamers may appreciate and enjoy despite taking a lot of its inspiration from two famous retro game series, Zelda and Metroid. Additionally, it is helpful that Crypt Custodian has a endearing premise and a charming story that involves the Neko ( i .e., cats ).

Crypt Custodian‘s first meaningful aspect of play is that enemies who spit out projectiles will always have indications of where their attacks are going regardless of the chosen difficulty. Most actions games today, ( I am looking at you Soulslike games, ) want people to “git gud” and forecast problems to avoid them. Attacks are made where they can be easily avoided by Crypt Custodian, who does n’t believe that players are psychic. That does n’t mean the combat in the game is easy; some enemies veer off in a rush, and others rage against the wall like they’re crazy. Despite this, there is at least some regularity, which is good for anyone who wants to play an action game for themselves.

The game support options that allow for customization of elements like strike power, fall damage, and more health are the other aspect of the game that is most satisfying about Crypt Custodian. This is the distinction between completing a game after enjoying the experience and becoming enthralled for some casual players. It’s disheartening when gamers give up on a game even though it has an intriguing story and art type despite the difficulty. Crypt Custodian, it must be said, has both. The only flaw I discovered on the Switch interface is that, after activating some aid options, they revert to the initial after going through a few windows ( possibly a bug).

The more time on mysteries is one of the nicest support options in Crypt Custodian. The majority of the day, problems options in action games are related to the attacks and patterns of the enemies, and they rarely factor in puzzles. People who choose this option can have extra time when solving timed puzzles, which are typically extremely difficult. Even though the majority of timed puzzles are optional (usually for an upgrade point ), it’s nice to know that one does n’t need to be an expert in platforming and puzzle solving to finish them.

Crypt Custodian pays tribute to traditional issue and RPG games. The story is enthralling, gameplay is fun and addictive and they are n’t trying to ramp up the difficulty because it’s the done thing. The fact that we both had a lot of fun playing this game on two distinct platforms speaks levels. This title is n’t doing anything massively new with the genre but what it is doing, it’s doing perfectly. This game is one you definitely have to get your fangs into if you like the Metroidvania design.
